Label-free, Optical Technologies for Structural & Functional Analysis as well as for Automated Diagnosis of DSS colitis using Machine Learning

Published:

The Optics group at the Arctic University of Norway/University of Tromsø (UiT) organized a Workshop on Live-Cell Microscopy. Together with a group of researchers from the Erlangen Graduate School of Advanced Optical Technologies (SAOT), I visited this amazing workshop in the beautiful city of Tromsø to present our Multiphoton endomicroscope. My poster was awarded with the poster award.

Label-free in vivo Histopathology of Experimental Colitis via Three-Channel Multiphoton Imaging

Published:

The integrated research training group (iRTG) of the TRR241 is an interdisciplinary junior researcher group that investigates different aspects of inflammatory bowel diseases. At this year’s “retreat”, I presented the latest update from our sub-project on Label-free Multiphoton Imagaging.

Together with Marilena Letizia, my poster was awarded with the poster award. The event took place virtually due to the Corona pandemic.

Optical histology based on label-free multiphoton imaging allows quantification of distinct inflammatory patterns in murine colitis

Published:

The German societly for gastroenterology (“Deutsche Gesellschaft für Gastroenterologie, Verdauungs- und Stoffwechselkrankheiten - DGVS”) was founded in 1913 as scientific society for the investigation of digestive organs. At the Viszeralmedizin 2021, I presented our most recent research on label-free multiphoton microscopy for murine colitis models. The abstract was published in the proceedings of the conference here. More information on the conferece is here.

Towards Surface-Correction of Deep-Tissue Blood Flow Dynamics with Massively Parallelized Diffuse Correlation Spectroscopy

Published:

I was invited to present our latest results on massively parallelized diffuse correlation spectroscopy (DCS) at this year’s Neurophotonics conference, as sub-conference of SPIE Photonics Europe in the beautiful Strasbourg. Here is a link to this talk. The conference was co-organized with the SPIE computational optics, where my collegue Amey Chaware showed the latest results on 3D polarimetry with Fourier ptychography from our group. Check out his invited talk here!

Optical Technologies in Life Sciences

Lecture, FAU, 2019

Already since 2019, I am supporting Dr. Sebastian Schürmann and Prof. Oliver Friedrich in the course “Optical Technologies in Life Sciences”, which is addressed to students of Life Science Engineering (LSE), Medical Engineering (MT) or Master of Advanced Optical Technologies (MAOT). I started as tutor for the exerise sesssions and gradually took on more responsiblities. Since 2021, I am giving my own lecture units on Light-Tissue interaction, Spectroscopy and data processing within the scope of this lecture.

Mentor in the School of Advanced Optical Technologies (SAOT)

Mentoring, FAU, Erlangen, Germany, 2022

Since February 2022, I am active as mentor for Doctoral candidates in the branch “Biomedical Photonics and Data Processing” at the Graduate School of Advanced Optical Technologie (SAOT). Read more about this program here.

Certificate in Higher Education Teaching - Zertifikat Hochschullehre der Bayerischen Universitäten – Grundstufe

Certificate, Fortbildungszentrum Hochschullehre der FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg, Germany, 2022

The Bavarian universities offer the opportunity to acquire higher education didactic competencies in a systematic and practice-oriented manner, based on international standards. Through the standardized certification, graduates receive formal proof of their higher education didactic competencies, which serves as evidence of their pedagogical-didactic qualifications. The base level requires 60 working units at 45 minutes each, in the five areas of:
A) Teaching / learning concepts (‘Lehr-/Lernkonzepte’)
B) Presentation and Communication (‘Präsentation und Kommunikation’)
C) Examination (‘Prüfen’)
D) Reflection and evaluation (‘Reflexion und Evaluation’)
E) Advise and guide (‘Beraten und Begleiten’)

Bioanalytik

Lecture, FAU, 2023

Since this year, I am the responsible coordinator for the Bioanalytics lecture (Bioanalytik) for Bachelor’s students of the course ‘Life Science Engineering’ (LSE) at FAU. Read more about this course here.

Optical and Mechanical Tissue Analysis for Medical Engineering (‘Optische und Mechanische Gewebeanalyse für die Medizintechnik’ - OMG-MT)

Lecture, FAU, 2024

You always wanted to learn how to combine optical and mechanical technologies to investigate biomedical samples in terms ofmechanical properties, such as stiffness, elasticity or even active force generation, as well as optical properties, such as scattering, phase contrast or second order polarization susceptibility? You also wanted to find an opportunity for cool seminar projects, where you can learn the latest tools for scientific writing, citations and understand research papers, that prepare you for your graduation theses? Then look no further, because since 2024, you can take OMG-MT, a course that Dr. Michael Haug and I designed and teach!
